Bob Bell Automotive Group Shares their Knowledge of Cars with You!

You have to change your oil every 3000 miles has been pounded into our heads for decades. It may have  had merit many years ago when engines used non-multi-weight, non-detergent oil. It no longer has any scientific basis, but it is still being promoted and profited  by the Quick Change oil industry.. This  is also pushed as the “Cheap Insurance Myth.” Here are some simple facts.

  • Modern oils coupled with far better engines eliminated 3000 mile changes years ago.
  • If the Manufactures thought it would save money in warranty repairs the recommended interval would be 3000 miles not the 6 to 8000 miles manufacturers currently recommend.
  • Changing your oil more than necessary is costly and a environmentally unsound practice.
  • This Myth has been pushed on us by the Huge corner Quick Lube business.

The other misconception is that it’s cheaper to have a corner Quick Lube do your oil changes.
Wrong again! There is very little price difference between the two. There may be a big difference in the experience and quality of oil & parts of the Corner Quick lube shops.

Example: The average vehicle is driven 15,000 miles a year and the average oil change is $25.

  • Mr Corner Quick Lube says its cheap insurance to see him every 3000 miles.
  • Pay him $125.00 for 5 oil change and 3  extra 1 hour trips to their shop.

The average Manufacture oil change interval for normal driving is 7500 miles

  • Pay your dealer $50.00 for the two oil changes Required.
  • Peace of mind that if any problems arise the Dealer has Certified mechanics to help and advise you.
  • Go Green and Save $$ &  Spread the Word!

One last point is that the Quick Lubes are probably a little faster than most dealers but you will find nicer waiting areas, most  with WiFi access plus you can check out the New Models and Incentives while you are waiting at  the dealership. 2011 Ford Focus Baltimore at Bob Bell Ford

With better styling than the Chevrolet Cruze and better handling than the Hyundai Elantra, the 2012 Ford Focus is the most complete package in the compact-car market.

2011 Ford Focus Baltimore
The Focus is an very stylish vehicle in this mostly conservative class. It offers body-colored door handles and side mirrors, with integrated turn signals. Standard wheels range from 15-inch steel rims on the Focus S to 17-inch alloys on the Titanium trim level. There are many optional alloy wheels as well, topping out at 18 inches for the Titanium.

A rear spoiler comes on the sedan’s optional SE Sport Package. Ford also offers a wide selection of graphics packages that can be applied to either body style at the dealership.

2012 Ford Focus baltimore Interior Features
Two cubic feet smaller than the 2011 model, the 2012 Focus’ interior compares to the Civic and Corolla, with less backseat room than more recent introductions like the Cruze. The interior quality is notably higher than in the 2011, with standard cloth and, in higher trim levels, optional leather upholstery. Heated front seats are also optional.

The two base trim levels come with a one-piece, folding bench backseat, and a 60/40-split version is optional on the SE and standard on the two higher trims. At 13.2 cubic feet, the 2012′s trunk is 0.6 cubic foot smaller than last year’s model. The hatchback, which hasn’t been offered since the 2006 model year, offers 23.8 cubic feet behind the backseat and a total of 44.8 cubic feet when the rear seats are folded flat.

Standard and optional features include heated side mirrors, remote start, a keyless-entry keypad, satellite radio, a navigation system, a backup camera, a moonroof, Sync and MyFord Touch. An automatic parallel-parking option will come later in the model year.

Under the Hood
The 2011 Ford Focus Baltimore engine is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder that can team with a five-speed manual transmission or a six-speed automatic, which is a fast-acting dual-clutch automated manual. (It has no clutch pedal and operates as an automatic from the driver’s perspective.)

According to Ford, the Focus will achieve as high as 38 mpg on the highway with the automatic and 36 mpg with the manual. The best efficiency will come with the Super Fuel Economy option later in the model year, which for $495 will deliver 40-mpg highway with the automatic.

The Focus offers two suspension tunings, tied to wheel size. The base covers all wheel sizes from 15 to 17 inches. The Titanium’s optional 18-inchers come with a firmer, sportier suspension and pricey Michelin Pilot Sport 3 summer performance tires.

Ford Focus Safety
The Focus marks the debut of new airbag technology that Ford says will better protect against chest and rib injuries. Both the shape and a new variable venting feature attempt to tailor airbag deployment to suit the occupant’s position. Front-seat-mounted side-impact airbags are also designed to maximize deployment force. Curtain airbags that cover the side windows for both rows of seats are also standard. The Focus includes antilock brakes, traction control and an electronic stability system.

2013 Chevrolet Malibu Revealed

Chevrolet just revealed the redesigned 2013 Chevrolet Malibu. Baltimore Chevy drivers will be very impressed with the sleek design and tech savvy interior.

GM said the new Malibu will be available only with four-cylinder engines, which we assume is due to fuel economy. The 2011 Malibu can be ordered with a 252-horsepower 3.6-liter V6 engine on 2LT and LTZ models. The 2013 Malibu “will feature a global family of fuel-efficient and powerful four-cylinder engines, along with six-speed transmissions,” said GM in a statement.

No pricing information was releasesd at this time, but keep checking back for more information and check out our Baltimore Chevrolet Malibu dealer, Bob Bell Chevrolet  for unbeatable deals on all new and used Chevy’s. Click on the video below for a sneak peek of the 2013 Malibu.

Here are some basic car care tips  for spring that are designed to repair your vehicle from months of harsh winter driving. Others are car care steps that should be taken every few months anyway. The coming of spring, though, is the motivation to get them all out of the way at once

  • Undercarriage Road salt – Road salt can damage your vehicle’s undercarriage by eating away or corroding the metal. A thorough cleaning at a car wash should do the trick.
  • Check the tires – It’s crucial to check your tires after weather changes because tire pressure changes about 1 pound per square inch for every 10 degrees Fahrenheit change in temperature.
  • Wiper blades – Windshield wipers take a beating during the winter weather – wiping away dirt, debris and salt and gravel spray. Make sure the blades are making full contact with the windshield and have not dried out.
  • Rotate tires – This should be done roughly every 5,000-10,000 miles and it can extend the life of your tires significantly by reducing wear.
  • Change oil and filter – Some car makers suggest changing to a heavier oil to help your vehicle’s engine perform more efficiently during warmer weather.
  • Change air filter – Your car’s air filter prevents dust and other debris from getting into the engine’s running parts, meaning less efficient use of gas and weaker engine performance.
  • Flush and fill cooling system. This is cheap insurance against engine failure. Experts recommend flushing every 2 years for most vehicles.
  • Check radiator and gas caps – Tight fitting caps on the radiator and gas tank are important. Radiator caps can corrode and deteriorate, so it’s a good idea to replace yours as often as you flush the cooling system.
  • Check battery and plugs – Make sure battery posts and connections are clean. Spark plugs fire as many as 3 million times every 1,000 miles.
  • Clean the interior – It’s easy to use your car or truck as a storage area for all kinds of things (including useless junk and garbage), especially in the cold months when you don’t feel like cleaning your car in the freezing cold. Take the time to de-clutter your car. It’s worth it. BobBellNissan.com BobBellKia.com

Nissan NV Baltimore

Bob Bell Nissan will be a Certified Fleet and Commercial Dealer for the new Nissan NV Baltimore. Nissan has announced tentative pricing for the all-new 2012 NV full-size van, starting at $24,590. It’s the company’s first light commercial vehicle for North America and is aimed at other large vans, like the Chevrolet Express and Ford E-Series. Call Arnold Hornstein for details at 410-288-2500.

The Nissan NV Baltimore uses a modified version of the Nissan Titan’s ladder frame. Instead of a conventional short-nose configuration, where part of the engine sits in the cab next to the driver, the NV has a long-nose front end, like a full-size pickup truck. Nissan has positioned the engine ahead of the A-pillar and firewall.

Nissan NV Baltimore Models

Two roof configurations will be available, depending on job needs. The standard roof offers a maximum 55.4-inch height from load floor to ceiling, and a very tall roof version is 76.5 inches tall inside — enough for most people to stand up and walk around inside without stooping. The standard roof can hold up to 220 cubic feet of cargo, and the high roof can accommodate up to 300 cubic feet.

Nissan NV Baltimore models include the half-ton NV1500 with a standard 4.0-liter V-6 engine (shared with the Nissan Frontier), the three-quarter-ton NV2500 HD with a choice of a 4.0-liter V-6 or 5.6-liter V-8 (shared with the Nissan Titan) and the one-ton NV3500 HD with a standard 5.6-liter V-8. All 2012 NV models are equipped with a five-speed automatic transmission. There’s one with a 146.1-inch wheelbase. The front suspension is independent, and the rear uses a live axle and leaf springs. The NV is available in two grades, S and SV.

Nissan NV Baltimore Pricing

With a starting price of $24,590, the Nissan NV Baltimore costs $270 less than a similarly configured Chevrolet Express 1500 with a less powerful 4.3-liter V-6 and $3,595 less than a similarly configured Ford E-150 with a standard 4.6-liter V-8.

Nissan NV Baltimore Design

While designing the NV, Nissan interviewed current van owners to obtain information on what consumers would like to see improved. As a result the NV received lots of clever features; the passenger seat folds down and doubles as a work table; the wheel houses are squared off inside the cargo area; the sidewalls are vertical all the way to the roof for optimum cargo space; there’s an abundance of lighting, wide door openings, multiple power outlets, and multiple attachment points for shelves and racks.

Bob Bell Ford Hyundai Kia Nissan Chevrolet Public Interest Notice
New booster ratings: 21 Best Bets and 7 Good Bets;
8 out of 72 seats evaluated aren’t recommended
ARLINGTON, VA — Boosters are better than they used to be at fitting lap and shoulder belts on 4 to 8-year-old kids to restrain them in a crash. So parents don’t have to search as hard for a good fit for their child and vehicle. Most belt-positioning boosters, though, don’t offer consistently good fit in all vehicles. This is the bottom line in the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s third round of booster evaluations.
Researchers assessed the safety belt fit of 72 boosters, assigning the best ones the top ratings of BEST BET or GOOD BET because they correctly position belts on average booster-age kids in most vehicles. The worst performers are ones the Institute doesn’t recommend because they do a poor job of fitting belts. A good booster routes the lap belt across a child’s upper thighs and positions the shoulder belt at mid shoulder.
The Institute doesn’t conduct vehicle crash tests to evaluate boosters because boosters don’t do the restraining in a crash. It’s the fit of the belt that’s important.
“For the first time top-rated boosters outnumber ones the Institute doesn’t recommend,” says Anne McCartt, Institute senior vice president for research. “Now more than ever manufacturers are paying attention to belt fit, and it’s showing up in our ratings.”
Twenty-one boosters are BEST BET models, and 7 earn GOOD BET (see list below). Another 8 aren’t recommended at all. This represents a market shift. Last year only 9 seats out of 60 the Institute evaluated earned BEST BET.
Even though poor performers make up a smaller percentage of boosters evaluated this year, 36 fall in the middle because they don’t consistently fit belts well on most kids in most cars, minivans, and SUVs. Most of these are backless boosters with good lap belt scores but not good shoulder belt scores.
“Unlike the top performers, consumers can’t assume boosters in the in-between group will work in every family vehicle. Some may be fine, but parents still need to try them out to see if the lap and shoulder belts fit their kids correctly,” McCartt says. Obvious red flags are lap belts that ride up on the tummy and shoulder belts that either fall off the shoulder or rub against a child’s neck. McCartt advises parents to keep looking until they find a booster that fits.
Institute engineers assess boosters using a crash test dummy representing an average-size 6 year-old. They measure how 3-point lap and shoulder belts fit the dummy in each of the boosters under 4 conditions spanning the range of belt configurations in a wide variety of vehicle types. A booster’s overall rating is based on the range of scores for each measurement.
Good belt fit

GOOD BELT FIT

Boosters elevate children so safety belts designed for adults will fit better. The lap belt should fit flat across a child’s upper thighs, not the soft abdomen. Good boosters have belt-routing features that hold lap belts down and forward. The shoulder belt should cross snugly over the middle of the shoulder. Then it’s in position to provide effective protection in a crash.
Poor belt fit

POOR BELT FIT

Not all boosters provide good belt fit. Here the lap belt is too high on the abdomen, and the shoulder belt is too too close to the neck.
Why fit matters: No federal standard dictates how a booster should position belts. The government’s dynamic tests of crash performance don’t measure what boosters are meant to do, and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration only ranks boosters by how easy they are to use. Manufacturers crash test boosters, but these simulations don’t tell parents how boosters will fit kids in their cars. Every state and the District of Columbia has a child restraint law, but they differ when it comes to booster-age kids. In 27 states and DC, the laws cover kids until age 8, with exceptions for kids who are big for their ages.
The Institute in 2008 began evaluating boosters to help make selecting appropriate ones less of a guessing game. Since then some manufacturers have adopted the Institute’s test protocol and booster seat fixture to help evaluate belt fit on the new boosters they’re designing. Britax Child Safety Inc. is one. The North Carolina-based company has 1 BEST BET (Britax Frontier 85) and 1 GOOD BET (Britax Parkway SG) this year.
Belts do the main job of keeping kids in boosters safe in crashes, but belts along with vehicle seats are designed for adults, not children, so it’s important for boosters to lift kids into position for lap/shoulder belts to provide proper restraint. Children 4-8 who ride in boosters are 45 percent less likely to sustain injuries in crashes than children restrained by belts alone.
Wider variety of seats:New this year to the BEST BET ranks are seats by Chicco, Cybex, Graco, Harmony, and The First Years. These manufacturers join Britax, Clek, Combi, Dorel, Evenflo, and Recaro, which had BEST BET boosters in Institute evaluations last year and have models in the latest round.
“Parents looking for top-rated seats now have more choices that include several affordable picks,” McCartt says. “Consumers don’t have to spend much money on a booster to get good all-around belt fit. In fact, shoppers can find several BEST BET boosters for $50 or less through online retailers.”
Forty-nine boosters are carryovers from the Institute’s 2009 ratings because they still are in production. These include 7 BEST BET models, 5 GOOD BET boosters, and 6 that aren’t recommended.
Harmony improves:It’s clear that some manufacturers are taking the ratings to heart. Harmony Juvenile Products has 5 BEST BET boosters, more than any other manufacturer. One of them, the Harmony Secure Comfort Deluxe backless, wasn’t recommended last year. The company modified it to eliminate the earlier problem with lap belt fit. Dorel Juvenile Group has 5 seats that rate either BEST BET or GOOD BET, including the new Safety 1st Boost Air Protect. The firm sells seats under the names Cosco, Dorel, Eddie Bauer, Maxi-Cosi, Safeguard, and Safety 1st. Dorel also makes 4 boosters the Institute doesn’t recommend, down from 7 in the prior round of evaluations.
What should parents do if a booster they already have isn’t one the Institute recommends using? McCartt advises parents in this situation to take note of how the safety belts in their vehicle fit their child next time they’re in the car.
“If the booster isn’t doing a good job — if the lap belt is up on your son or daughter’s tummy or if the shoulder belt is falling off your child’s shoulder — then find a replacement booster seat as soon as practical, but you’ll probably want to keep using the old one until then,” McCartt says.

Bob Bell Fall Car Care tips

Tires
Check air pressure on your tires. Next check your tires tread depth as this is a very important safety item These will make sure you are getting the best gasl economy during the fall months and are crucial in the winter months when driving in bad weather. The air pressure and tire tread depth will affect how much  grip the tires have on the road.
Fluids
Be sure to check your antifreeze protection level. Now is a great time to have your coolant system flushed and refilled. It is important to check your oil and have it changed at the manufactures recommended intervals. This is even more important in winter months as dirty oil can contribute to even more problems in the colder months. Also make sure you have your oil filter changed as well.
Engine
Have the the battery  and it’s charging system is checked before the winter. Also if you are due for a tune-up this fall, don’t put it off until after the winter. Minor problems can become more significant in the cold weather as your engine has to work harder during the colder months.

Baltimore Service Specials

General Winter Tips
Check your heater and defroster before the colder months arrive. Check your wiper blades are they worn? If so, get them replaced before the winter months arrive. They now have wiper blades designed specifically for the inclement weather winter brings with it. Walk around your car and inspect all your lights If not, get them fixed now. Finally but definitely not least, make sure you check your brakes. Braking distance will be increased in inclement weather, don’t let worn brakes add to this condition.

Replace your Timing Belt as required by the manufacture. On the majority of vehicles if the timing belt fails the engine will quit, unharmed. The lucky motorist will have only the inconvenience of being stranded on the side of the road. The car can then be towed to a repair facility to have the timing belt replaced. On some engines, however, a broken timing belt can cause major damage to internal components. This potential disaster can be avoided easily and relatively inexpensively by replacing the timing belt as recommended in the owner’s manual.

2011 nissan juke baltimore2011 Nissan Juke Baltimore Overview

2011 Nissan  Juke Baltimore - five-seat small crossover is the  smallest crossover in the automaker’s lineup, but it packs a more powerful engine plus a sophisticated available all-wheel-drive system that together give the Juke a decidedly sporty bearing.

Offered in S, SV and SL trim levels, the Juke will also be available with a number of upscale features such as push-button start and a navigation system with real-time traffic information when it hits dealerships in fall 2010.

2011 Nissan Juke Baltimore Inventory

Exterior
Nissan isn’t afraid to take risks with vehicle styling. The Quest minivan and Cube small car are two recent examples, and the Juke follows in that tradition. From the stacked front lights, a grille that spans the width of the vehicle and muscular fender flares, the Juke’s styling is out there, but in a good way.

Even though the Juke is much shorter than the Rogue, its wheelbase is only about 6 inches less, which gives the Juke short front and rear overhangs that enhance its stance. Standard 17-inch aluminum wheels help fill out the wheel wells.

Interior
2011 Nissan Juke Baltimore cabin styling is more traditional than its exterior, but it does have its share of unique design elements. They include a painted center console that, according to Nissan, is styled to look like a sport bike’s gas tank. The driver faces a three-spoke steering wheel and an instrument panel dominated by a large tachometer and speedometer. The Juke has a 60/40-split folding backseat that lets you dedicate more space for cargo when you need to.

Standard features include a CD stereo with steering-wheel controls and iPod connectivity, and Bluetooth connectivity. Available features include automatic air conditioning, leather upholstery, heated front seats, a backup camera, push-button start, a moonroof and a navigation system with a 5-inch touch-screen.

Under the Hood
Power comes from a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder with direct injection and is rated at an estimated 180 horsepower and 170 pounds-feet of torque. A continuously variable automatic transmission is standard, and a six-speed manual is available, though the manual is offered only on front-wheel-drive SV and SL trims.

2011 Nissan Juke Baltimore Features

The Juke is also available with Nissan’s Integrated Control system, which tailors the response of the gas pedal, CVT and steering based on three selectable modes: Normal, Sport and Eco.

The Juke’s available performance-oriented all-wheel-drive system can evenly split engine torque between the front and rear wheels, but it can also transfer torque between the rear wheels. Sending more torque to the outside rear wheel when cornering can help reduce understeer, and the Juke’s system can provide up to 50 percent of the engine’s torque to this wheel if necessary. It’s a strategy employed by other automakers, but one rarely seen on models at the Juke’s price point, which is around $20,000 to start. All-wheel-drive models also get a multilink rear suspension in place of the front-drive models’ torsion-beam design.

Safety
Standard safety features include antilock brakes, side-impact airbags for the front seats, side curtain airbags for both rows, an electronic stability system and active head restraints for the front seats.
